"My enjoyment of the book was satisfied. I really understood the story. The details that he used made it quite clear enough. He described certain situations and problems that made me felet like I was part of it too. I understood why he stood up for himself the way he did and how he back fire at some sergeants because he did not want to be taken advantage of. I wish I had the strength that he had when he stood up for his brother and some bullies. He was a n intelligent man. Staying out of trouble and remembering others. He is a unselfish person, has a great servants heart, puts others first and could care less if he gets anything back in return."
Michelle

"Marrin set out to make the best of  the situation that he is given. Instead of letting his parents take the full load of the depression he decided to go along and find odd jobs and other various activities to earn money."
Michael

"This detailed passage; Marrin uses words such as 'cold' and 'compassion to show a warm feeling in the midst of the brisk, chilled weather of December."
TeeJay

"Even to a person who has no military experience it is obvious that life in the military is not an easy job. That is what makes this story so appealing. No matter what the conditions of Marrin’s life he displays the sense that a person must be courageous and strong willed. The more a person reads of Marrin’s accounts in the military the more he/she grows to appreciate his story. This story makes a person cherish the smaller things in life that we take for granted. Reading all that this honorable man has shared with the world makes me appreciate the men who fight for this country even more. It inspires me to be more courageous and stand up for what I believe in, like Marrin did."

"Appreciating what I have and how much easier I have it, compared to others who are not as fortunate."
Ariel

"Made me think profoundly about what we receive in life, how grateful I should be and how honored I am to see someone so compassionate."
Trevonia

"It showed me how grateful I need to be and I need to treasure my freedom."
Jonathan

"It left me feeling like doing things for others and keeping your faith alive."
Ruth

"I thought he handled losing so many people that were close to him very well. His strength was inspirational."
Amber

"It reminds me of myself and the neighborhood I grew up in. Where I grew up, standing your own ground was a key to getting by. . . I find it interesting that a young boy (in the Depression) went through some of the same things I can relate to."  Re. p.11, paragraph 5.
Marquell

"I have been an instructor with the Community Christian College for 2 ½ Years. A very good impression, Ken, that you have made on these students. Thanks, again, for your story."
Krista

"Lunch Is Over is entertaining and educational.  Known as 'The Forgotten War', so many youthful students never had the opportunity to learn about the sacrifices that our American soldiers made while serving in the Korean War...."
